Inspired by movement throughout my career as a dancer and a video editor, I have found personal expression with clay and through the wheel.
I came across ceramics by chance and quickly was absorbed by the activity that actually fuses all the fields I was previously engaged in. Movement, breathing, rhythm and intuition are my tools, along with technique.
Ceramic creation is a physical and sensual experience, encompassing form, size, color and scent. Each form starts on the wheel as a defined and symmetric structure. The resilience of the clay, as well as the tension between the complete form and its potential for collapse, lead me to examine boundaries. When the clay is still wet and flexible and its form is perfect, I upset the balance and create a new asymmetric form. The slip and desired error are parts of the creation, and in fact they become the creation itself.
Since ceramics wonderfully intertwine the aesthetic and the practical, I am treading a fine line by letting the form be tangible and functional while at the same time setting it free from over practicality. Featuring gentle prints as well as contrast between texture and glaze, my works express and further explore the connection and boundaries between structure and movement. Their soft flow, emphasized by paper-thin daintiness, illustrates the relentless interplay between matter and spirit.
In a world of ancient ceramics culture, I seek uniqueness and a way in which the authentic and intimate join together into the beautiful and practical simplicity of the ceramic completion.
